Myrtle House Before & After: Guest Room

The guest room was one of the worst rooms in the house, hands down. The floors had rotted through and someone had patched it with cardboard (!!!) at some point which, of course, basically turned to mush because it is cardboard.... Anyway, as with all of the rooms in the Myrtle House, this one was gutted top to bottom. New joists, subfloor, framing, drywall, electrical, hardwoods, trim, doors, paint, etc.

When it came time to decorating and furnishing, this room became a sort of "catch all" and housed random pieces we found on the cheap or had laying around. Oddly enough, it is now one of my favorite rooms in the house! The pop of aqua blue is really cheerful and I love the early morning light those big windows let in.

A lot of the furniture in this room is sentimental. The dresser and chest were my mom's when she was a little girl. I added some paint and new hardware to breath new life into the set. The little side chair in the corner was an extra from our family's beach place that was recently sold. The aqua mason jars belonged to Brian's grandmother and even the cylinder vase holding flower branches has a special memory as one of our wedding centerpieces.

Though the room is itty bitty, it is the perfect size for a queen size bed. We have already had the opportunity to host four different sets of guests and I think they all enjoyed their modest but cozy accommodations!

We were also able to squeeze in a full size bathroom so that our guests have a private spot to get ready in the morning. The Brooklyn House had one bathroom so having a separate space for our family and friends is great.

The taupe headboard and hotel-inspired duvet were both Target clearance finds. The little "Collect Moments Not Things" artwork above the bed was a quick DIY project by yours truly. We also created one of those WIFI password frames and it has come in handy! I used this template in case you are interested.

Here is the inspiration board I made in 2014. Not too far off!
