Get a Check by Using Ebates
*This post contains affiliate links, which means that if you sign up for one of these programs through one of the links listed, I may receive compensation. I promise to only share the scoop (with sprinkles on top) on brands that I love. Thank you for supporting businesses that make my little blog possible!*
The commercials are true! When you sign up for Ebates, and use it to buy the things you would normally buy from stores you would normally buy from, you get some dolla-dolla bills in the form of a check mailed every few months. My sisters and mom are skeptical, and when my Ebates check arrives in the mail, I make sure to wave it in front of them so that they know about the cold hard cash they are missing out on. They love that, by the way. :)
So how exactly does it work? First, you need to sign up! It is very easy to create an account. You can follow the link here to start. When you are ready to shop, simply sign into your Ebates account, search for the site you will be making a purchase from (my frequented stops are Target, Lowes, and Groupon) and checkout on the store's website just as you normally would.
So I am sure you are wondering, just as I was, what's the catch? Why would this company want to send me money? Ebates has partnered with these stores in an affiliate program. The stores have agreed to give a portion of their sales to Ebates when a customer goes through the Ebates website to make a purchase. In order to entice shoppers to utilize their website, Ebates offers a percentage of that revenue back to the customer! It is a win-win for both parties.
Ebates will not cost you a single copper Lincoln to use. In fact, I have accumulated $147 to date on purchases I would have made anyways! Be careful not to get too carried away. Just because you will receive 5% back at Kate Spade, it doesn't necessarily justify buying a new handbag. :) Ebates can be a great tool to earn a couple bucks back for items you would normally purchase.
The only hurdle I have run into with Ebates is simply remembering to use it! However, Ebates has created a great feature for even the most absent-minded like myself. The Cash Back Button gently reminds you to hop over to Ebates before completing a purchase to save some cash.
